LuccaVCCIn a busy 24 hours for the Italian supporters’ trust movement, two Supporters In Campo member groups held successful events in their home cities this past weekend.First up were Verona Col Cuore, who this past Friday presented their project to members and supporters at an event held in Verona. The centrepiece of the event was a debate on the involvement of supporters in the ownership and decision-making processes at clubs in Italy, which featured representatives from Serie B and Hellas Verona FC on the panel.

The next morning, Lucca United (the supporters’ trust at Lucchese Libertas 1905) opened their new headquarters under the Curva Ovest of the Stadio Porta Elisa, in an event that attracted around 500 members and supporters. As well as serving as a base for the trust’s activities, the site will also host a museum dedicated to their club’s 108-year history. Serie B President Andrea Abodi was among the Italian football stakeholders present at the ceremony.

The two events follow in the footsteps of the joint event organised by Supporters Direct Europe, Supporters in Campo and the Lega Pro earlier this month, which marked the first time that supporters, Lega Pro clubs, and governing bodies have come together to map out how greater supporter involvement in the ownership and decision making process of clubs can be achieved. Many of the issues raised at the two events were also addressed in the ‘Il Calcio senza Tifosi perde la propria anima’ handbook, produced by Supporters in Campo as part of the ‘Improving Football Governance through Supporter Involvement and Community Ownership’ project. The project was financed by the European Commission, coordinated by SD Europe and involved nine partners from eight different countries.
